Verna L. Torpy

Verna L. Torpy, 66, Silver Lake, IN went to be with her Lord Friday, August 29, 2014 at 6:10 a.m. in her residence. She was born September 30, 1947 in Waco, TX to Joseph C. and Minnie Leona (Markle) Nawara. She graduated from Lamar Consolidated High School, Rosenburg, TX in 1965. On January 28, 1977 she married Max E. Torpy. Verna worked in many financial institutions and retired from the loan operation department at Lake City Bank, Warsaw, IN in 2010. She enjoyed spending time with her family, quilting, reading and collecting notebooks. She was a fabulous wife, mother and grandma. Verna was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Wabash, IN. She was member of the Lady's Guild at her church that made quilts for babies and veterans and a member of a ladies home-ec club. She was an amazing lady that will be sorely missed. She is survived by her husband, Max E. Torpy, Silver Lake, IN; one son, Bret (Ann) Torpy, Burket, IN; one daughter, Shannon M. (Greg) Brazo, Burket, IN; one brother, James (Janie) Nawara, New Ulm, TX; and five grandchildren, ShaNell, Alexis and Morgan Brazo and Raechel and Jaxon Torpy. Two sisters, Nila Miller and Bettye Meyer, are deceased. Family and friends may call Wednesday, September 3, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 173 Hale Drive, Wabash, IN. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church, 173 Hale Drive, Wabash, IN. Rev. Jeremy Yeadon will officiate. Burial will be in Funk Cemetery, Bippus, IN.
