Stanley "Stan" Joe Gray, 75, South Whitley, passed away at his home on January 28, 2025. Born on August 3, 1949, in Wabash, to Verl and Opal (Hill) Gray, Stan was a lifelong resident of the South Whitley area, apart from a significant eight-year period spent in Tulsa, Oklahoma from 1980 to 1988.

Stan graduated from South Whitley High School in 1967, and shortly after, in 1968, he enlisted in the United States Army. Although his military service was cut short due to medical issues, he received an Honorable Discharge and remained a steadfast supporter of the military throughout his life. Following his service, Stan pursued further education, studying business at Indiana Business College in Fort Wayne.

For over thirty years, Stan dedicated himself to his career as a union carpenter, proudly contributing his skills and craftsmanship as a member of the Carpenters Union Local 232 in Fort Wayne.

Stan's charismatic personality endeared him to all who knew him. He was a person who never met a stranger, always greeting others with a smile and a story. Stan was a fan of Notre Dame football, but his readiness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need was a hallmark of his character, reflecting his generous spirit and deep concern for others.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Stan was proud to be a member of both the American Veterans Post 2919 in South Whitley and the American Legion Post 286 in North Manchester. Each year, he actively participated in placing flags in the Whitley area, honoring the sacrifices of fellow servicemen and women. His connection with local organizations extended to the Moose Lodge 1518 in North Manchester.

The loving memory of Stanley “Stan” Gray will be forever cherished by his sister, Cynthia “Cindy” Montgomery, Fort Wayne; nephews, Ryan (Anna) Lee, South Whitley and Derek (Aleah) Montgomery, Palmetto, Florida; niece, Holly Lee, Fort Wayne; and many cousins and friends. Stan was preceded in death by his parents, Verl and Opal Gray.
