Sandra Kay Grossnickle, affectionately known as "Nanny," passed away at the age of 80 on November 3, 2023, at her home in Liberty Mills, Indiana, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 14, 1943, in Rochester, Indiana, to her parents, Green Bradley and Ula (Tussey) Bradley. Sandra was a long-time resident of Liberty Mills, having spent most of her life in the place she called home.
Sandra joyfully retired to her books and garden from Heckman Bindery after 23 years of service. On January 12, 1962, Sandra married the love of her life, Roger Dean Grossnickle, and their enduring love story spanned over six decades.
Sandra is survived by her husband, Roger; their children, Rick (Rose) Grossnickle, Dana Clutter (Rob Moore), and Sherry (Don) Lewis, as well as her sister, Barbara (Richard) Miller. Her legacy lives on through her beloved grandchildren Cardella (Tyler) Selleck, Tiffany Stahl, Erica (Mark) Cornett, Brandon Clark, Dylan Grossnickle, and Justin (Jordan) Lewis, and eight great-grandchildren.
Sandra was preceded in death by her brothers Lonnie Bradley, Oscar Bradley, and William Bradley, and sisters Gladys Pfledderer, Geraldine Bradley, and Verlie VanLue.
Sandra created a beautiful property filled with peonies, coneflowers, zinnias, and lilacs. She was an organic gardener who grew food she loved to share with her family and friends. She reveled in trying different varieties of tomatoes and canned her own salsa and tomato juice. Her dill pickles were the best around.
Beyond her love for gardening, Sandra was an avid reader. She delved into a wide array of genres, from the classics to science fiction, children's chapter books, and her personal favorite, mysteries. Her literary passion extended to the practice of sharing her discoveries with loved ones. She was known for her exquisitely beautiful handwriting, described as "liquid lace" by those who received her notes.
However, Sandra's greatest joy in life was her beloved husband, Roger, whom she met in 9th grade at Central Jr. High School. Together, they weathered life's ups and downs, and their love is an inspiration to all who had the privilege of witnessing it.
Sandra will be remembered for her radiant smile, her kind and patient heart, and her unwavering love for her family. Sandra lived a simple life, one that she loved and was just perfect for her.
Honoring Sandy's wishes, there will be no final services. Instead, the family asks you to sow something beautiful in the world to celebrate her life.
