Robert F. Block

Robert F. Block, 88, Liberty Mills, IN died at 10:00 p.m. Sunday, February 6, 2011 in Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester, IN. He was born at Michigan City, IN on June 22, 1922 to Leo & Mary (Spencer) Block. On December 14, 1941 he married Virginia Miller. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Ronald (Kathy) Block, North Manchester, IN and John (Julie) Block, Andrews, IN. A daughter, Mrs. Gary (Mary Lou) Sroufe, South Whitley, IN. Eleven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Two sisters, June Smith, Michigan City, IN and Darlene Peterson, Salem, OR. Bob was a US Army veteran serving from 1942-1945. A graduate of Elston High School, Michigan City City, IN and a member of the Liberty Mills United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Post at South Whitley and the American Legion Post # 286, North Manchester. He was an early riser, fond of all sports especially baseball and hockey. An avid golfer he accomplished several hole-in-ones. He was a good father and grandfather and loved his family. Services will be held Thursday, February 10, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, IN. Friends and family may call on Thursday from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. at McKee's. Pastor Greg Bradford will officate services and burial will follow in South Whitley Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the Huntington V.F.W. Post # 2689.
