Richard Basil Hoover Jr., 75, Servia, Indiana, passed away December 27, 2021, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The sixth of eight children born to Richard Basil and Helen L. (Hearrell), Richard was born in Royal Center, Indiana, on November 24, 1946.
After attending Northfield High School, Richard enlisted in the United States Army where he was a Vietnam Veteran. After he was honorably discharged from the military, Richard worked for Pierceton Trucking in Laketon, Indiana, for many years. He later owned and operated RH Trucking before his health began to decline, forcing him to retire.
In his younger years, Richard enjoyed woodworking, sitting around with friends holding entertaining conversations, and reading countless books. Richard loved and supported the military and other veterans for years after he served. He was a member of the Laketon American Legion Sunset Post 402 in Laketon, Indiana.
The loving memory of Richard Basil Hoover Jr. will be forever cherished by his brother, Van (Sandra) Hoover, Bippus, Indiana; sister, Diana (Richard) Steele, North Manchester, Indiana; friend and caretaker, Wallace (Melody) Dingess, Servia, Indiana; and the many friends and coworkers he met over the years. Richard is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William and Kenneth Hoover; and sisters, Judith Day, Priscilla “Ginger” Green, and Janet Kay Hoover.
Family and friends may call Sunday, January 2, 2022, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, Indiana. Funeral services will begin at the conclusion of calling with Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating. Burial will be held at Crooked Creek Christian Cemetery, Royal Center, Indiana.
