Richard A. Eckert, 76, North Manchester, IN died at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Janaury 23, 2011 in Parkview Hospital, Ft. Wayne, IN. He was born June 26, 1934 in Warsaw, Indiana to Charles F. "Cappie" & Frances E. (Krauter) Eckert. On January 1, 1953 he married Darlene Michael. She survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. David (Pat) Leavell, Rochester, IN; two sons, Mike (Janet) Eckert, Birchwood, WI and Chuck Eckert, Sidney, IN. Eight grandchildren, Kim (Mark Seng) Brown, Lafayette, IN / Shane Leavell, Louisville, KY / Heather Leavell, Rochester, IN / D.J. Eckert, Warsaw, IN / Tammy (Russ) Binkley, Silver Lake, IN / Kyle Baird, Birchwood, WI / Kena Baird, Milwaukee, WI / Erica (Joel) Garber, North Manchester, IN. Twelve great-grandchildren. Five sisters, Mrs. Gene (Sharon) Wright, Greenwood, IN / Sonya Hoffman, New Haven, IN / Mrs. Mike (Janet) Elwood, North Webster, IN / Janice Bradtmiller, Ft. Wayne, IN / Mrs. Kirby (Jody) Brown, Van Wert, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents. Dick was a 1952 graduate of Sidney High School and was a salesman & manager for Moorman Feed Co. for 32 years. He was an active member and deacon of the Liberty Mills Church of the Brethren. He was a great husband, father and grandfather and spent much of his time helping family, friends and those in need. He also enjoyed fishing. Services will be held Thursday, January 27, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Liberty Mills Church of the Brethren, 71 N. Third Street, Liberty Mills, IN. Friends and family may call on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 from 1 - 3 p.m. & 4 - 8 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, IN. and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Pastor Kelly Beutler and Pastor Erin Huiras will officiate and burial will follow in South Whitley Cemetery, South Whitley, IN. For those who wish to honor the memory of Dick Eckert, memorial contributions may be made to the Liberty Mills Church of the Brethren Building Fund.
