Phyllis Joyce Hunn

Phyllis Joyce (Heeter) Hunn, 83, North Manchester, IN died October 8, 2015 in Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester, IN. She was born March 28, 1932 in South Bend, IN to George U. and Martha M. Heeter. She was the second of two children. Her older brother Harold E. Heeter preceded her in death. Phyllis gradated from Elkhart High School in 1950 and from Manchester College in 1954. Phyllis married G. Arthur Hunn on December 19, 1953. They have three children; Becky (Dennis) Unger, Jeff (Jane Cross) Hunn, and Julie (Bill) Baxter, four grandchildren, Matt (Lindsey) Unger, Amy (Kyle) Leffel, Lauren Baxter, Megan Baxter and two great-grandchildren, Ayla Leffel and Lilly Unger. Phyllis taught piano for 40 years, touching the lives of hundreds of children before and after school as well as many adults in her afternoons. She was an expert seamstress for her family and others. She was an accomplished organist and pianist, playing for church events for more than 70 years, accompanying many choirs, groups and individuals. She also accompanied the Manchester College Acapella choir, was Annual Conference pianist twice, National Older Adult Conference (NOAC) twice and ten years for the Ecclesia Choir at the Manchester faith family. She was a member of the String Symphony Orchestra during her college years. Travel with her family included annual trips to Annual Conference, a trip to the Holy Lands and a trip to Europe which included the Passion Play at Oberammergau and historic Brethren Schwarzenau Germany. Phyllis and Art were trained as disaster child care volunteers and assisted with the disaster needs of children in New Orleans and other disaster sites. She was an active member of the churches that Art pastored. She was currently a member of Manchester Church of the Brethren where she served multiple terms on the Parish Ministry Commission, sharing her sound advice in a loving and caring manner. Phyllis and Art moved to Timbercrest in January of 2012 and in September of 2014 Phyllis moved to Healthcare due to a Parkinson's disease. Always looking to serve, Phyllis requested that her body be donated to Indiana University Medical. Family and friends may call Sunday, October 18, 2015 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at Manchester Church of the Brethren, 1306 N. Beckley Street, North Manchester, IN. Service will be Sunday, October 18, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Manchester Church of the Brethren, 1306N. Beckley Street, North Manchester, IN.
