Peggy D (Baker) Workman

North Manchester

Peggy D. Workman, 90, North Manchester, passed away on June 28, 2022 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The third of seven children, Peggy was born on August 7, 1931 in Wabash County, Indiana to John L. and Ruby V. (Westafer) Baker.

At Chester High School, Peggy participated in the school band and played volleyball before graduating in 1950. It was during this time that she would meet her husband, Richard “Dick” Workman. The two would be married on June 8, 1952 in the First Brethren Church in North Manchester. Peggy and Dick would welcome four children throughout their marriage; Kathy, Kimera, Kent, and Kyle. A dedicated homemaker, Peggy worked hard to make sure her family was taken care of. Peggy also worked at Heckman Bindery for 34 years before retiring in 2003.

Peggy was a life-long member of First Brethren Church in North Manchester. She was known as a kind and gentle person with a true servant’s heart. Her joy was found in caring for others and she did so even at an advanced age. Her home for the last several years was at Timbercrest Senior Living Center where she could be found caring for her brothers who resided there, working diligently on puzzles, or tending to her flowers. She also enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s baseball and softball games, swimming, basketball, and camping.

The loving memory of Peggy D. Workman will be forever cherished by her son, Kyle (Teri) Workman, Claypool; daughters, Kathy (Stanley) Singpiel, Wabash, and Kim (William) McKenzie, North Manchester; brothers, Buford Baker, North Manchester, and James Baker, North Manchester; sisters, Judy (Dennis) Carlson, Middlebury, Linda (Michael) Sumpter, Warsaw, and Debbie Gay, Columbia City; eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband, L. Richard Workman; parents, John L. and Ruby V. (Westafer) Baker; son, Kent A. Workman; two brothers, Jack and Russell Baker; one brother-in-law, Dennis Gay; and three sister-in-laws, Polly Baker, Norma Baker, and Betty Baker.

Family and friends may call Wednesday, June 29, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, Indiana. Funeral services are Thursday, June 30, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at McKee Mortuary with calling one hour prior. Pastor Kurt Stout will officiate. Burial is at Oaklawn Cemetery, 600 Beckley Street, North Manchester.
