Mildred M. Heisler

Mildred M. "Milly" Heisler, 93, North Manchester, IN died at 10:44 p.m. Saturday, November 9, 2013 in Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Wayne, IN. She was born at Mount Morris, Illinois on March 8, 1920 to Virgil Ray & Tressie Lee (Fager) Dierdorff. She graduated from Mount Morris High School in 1938 and attended Manchester College from 1939-1942. On March 28, 1945 she married Gareth William Heisler. He died December 8, 1990. Surviving is a son, Benton R. (Linda) Heisler, Grand Rapids, MI and a daughter, Janet Lee (Robert) Hoover, Spring Arbor, MI. Four grandchildren; Emily Hoover, Sarah (Shawn) Scott, Kelsey (D.J.) Ikeler, Hannah (Travis) Heystek. A great grandchild, Summer Lee Scott. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a son, Phillip Lynn Heisler, and a brother, Richard (Dick) Dierdorff. Milly was a homemaker and taught elementary school in Mount Morris, IL and Bronson, MI. She directed children's and adult choirs, sold World Book Encyclopedias and volunteered in school classrooms, Girl Scout activities and sports boosters. She especially enjoyed watching Big Ten sports teams, sewing, singing duets and quartets, and corresponding through e-mail and letters with her many friends. She was a member of the Manchester Church of the Brethren. She was a woman of deep faith. It was only fitting she died surrounded by her family as they prayed and sang familiar hymns. Services will be held Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. at Timbercrest Chapel, 2201 East Street, North Manchester, IN. Friends and family may call at Timbercrest Chapel on November 16th from 1:00 p.m. -2:30 p.m. Rev. Dorotha Fry Mason will officiate and burial will be in Bronson Cemetery, Bronson, MI. Arrangements are entrusted to McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, IN.
