Max LaMar Metzger, a lifelong farmer, auctioneer, and mason, passed away at his home on March 20, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on June 10, 1937, in North Manchester, to Orville and Mae Ellen (Niccum) Metzger, Max was known for his dedication to farming, a calling he embraced for most of his life, only retiring in the last year. Beyond his contributions to farming, Max's diverse skills as an auctioneer and in masonry showcased his hard work.

On July 27, 1958 Max married Irene Lewis. During their time together, they were blessed with a beautiful life together and three children. Max's personality was characterized by his sense of humor, and he was truly one of a kind. He cherished the simple pleasures in life, including enjoying good home-cooked meals and fishing. His love for animals was evident; he took great pride in raising cattle and hogs, and his dogs were never far from his side.

The loving memory of Max Metzger will be forever cherished by his wife of sixty-six years, Irene Metzger; sons, Dennis Metzger and Steve Metzger; daughter, Dinah (Max) Ketrow; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; in-laws, Agatha Metzger, Janet Metzger, Leanna Stouder, Ruby (Leroy) Metzger, and Ernie Acord. Max was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leon, Eldon, Mark, Delmar, and Wilmer Metzger; sisters, Catherine Metzger, Esther (Billie) Blocher, and Leona Acord; and sister-in-law, Virginia Ann (Kenneth) Popejoy.
