Max DeWayne Brand was the son of John and Aileen (Buss) Brand. He was born on August 7, 1930 in Ashley, Indiana, the 4th child of seven. Max married Yvonne Ruth Collins of Watervliet, MI on a hot September 18thday in 1955 on the same date as his parents’ anniversary. Max and Yvonne celebrated 65 years of marriage, medical careers, and family in New Haven. They had four children, Ruth, Betty, John, and Jane. Max was a graduate of Manchester College (BS in Chemistry) and Michigan State University (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine). After practicing a few years in Niles, MI, they moved to the New Haven/Fort Wayne area where he established the Memorial Park Animal Hospital and subsequently designed and built the New Haven Pet Hospital during his 30 years of professional life. Max & Yvonne enjoyed traveling around the world including numerous mission trips, especially a most memorable Veterinary mission trip to Haiti. Max was an active and engaged member of New Haven United Methodist Church for 60 years. Max’s life embodied his love of family, education, hard work, integrity, travel, and faith. Max joins his parents, John and Aileen (Buss) Brand, sisters: Marjory Crill Scott, Jean Bowman, and Janet Steury, brothers, Jack Brand and Tom Brand. Surviving are his sister Mary Alice Dick, wife Yvonne, daughter Ruth and Hunter Farrell of Pittsburgh, PA with grandchildren, Ndaya Farrell with fiancé, Jeff Lanter, of Chicago, IL, Will Farrell of Louisville, KY and Andrew Farrell of Boston, MA, daughter Betty and Kirk Whiting of Chesterton, IN, son John and Tammy (Crosley) of Wauconda, IL with grandchildren Wesley Brand of Boulder, CO and Meredith Brand of Arlington Heights, IL, daughter Jane and Michael Snyder of Noblesville with grandchildren Jessica and Derek Bleyle with great grandchild Rhett of Cicero, Doug and Christin (Kubasko) Snyder of Raleigh, NC, Beth and Adam Howland with great grandchildren Roger and Theo of Noblesville. Max passed away peacefully at Timbercrest Senior Living in North Manchester with the exceptional loving care of Heartland Hospice Care and Senior Helpers.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, August 7 at New Haven United Methodist Church, 630 Lincoln Hwy E, New Haven, IN, with family receiving friends following the service.
