Mary Markowicz

Mary Markowicz, 96, North Manchester, IN and formerly of Gary, IN and Hobart, IN died at 5:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester, IN. She was born at Gary, Indiana on April 22, 1913 to Stephen & Helen (Dutkanych) Demchak. She married Paul Markowicz on May 2, 1942. He died January 11, 1982. Mary was a homemaker, a graduate of Froebel High School at Gary, IN and a member of Protection of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church, Merrillville, IN. Surviving are two daughters, Mary Chrastil, North Manchester, IN and Barbara (Mrs. John) Canada, Montrose, CO. Five grandchildren, Suzanne (Hendri) Tjandra, Union City, CA; Kenneth (Marci) Canada, Parker City, UT; Michael Chrastil, Bloomington, IN; Rachel Chrastil, Cincinnati, OH; Elizabeth Chrastil, Providence, RI. Five great-grandchildren, Benjamin Tjandra, Daniel Tjandra, Joshua Canada, Noah Canada and Grace Canada. One brother and one sister are deceased. SERVICES WILL BE HELD SATURDAY, JANUARY 30, 2010 AT 10:30 A.M. (CST) AT PROTECTION OF THE VIRGIN MARY ORTHODOX CHURCH, 8600 GRAND AVE., MERRILLVILLE, INDIANA. CALLING IS ONE HOUR PRIOR TO SERVICES AT THE CHURCH. CALLING ALSO ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 29, 2010 FROM 4 - 7 P.M. AT MCKEE MORTUARY, 1401 STATE ROAD 114 WEST, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN. Father Peter Bodnar will officiate and burial will follow at St. Mary's Orthodox Cemetery, Gary, IN.
