Martha Ann (Mullinix) Colburn

Martha Ann Colburn, 92, North Manchester, passed away at Peabody Healthcare Center in North Manchester on January 19, 2024. Born just outside of Peru in her family’s farm house on March 26, 1931, Martha was the daughter of Floyd and Elizabeth (Donaldson) Mullinix.

One of sixteen in her graduating class, Martha was a graduate of Lagro High School class of 1949. At the age of twenty-one, Martha married Franklin Colburn on August 1, 1952. For nearly fifty-seven years the two shared a life together before the passing of Franklin on May 18, 2009. During their marriage, they had two daughters, Nancy and Diana. While the children were young, Martha stayed at home with them until they were in high school. She then worked as a Supervisor at Marshall Electric in North Manchester for eight years and Manchester Electronics for eleven years before retiring in 1989.

Faithful to the Lord, Martha took her children to church every Sunday at the the West Manchester Church of the Brethren. She eventually became a member of the United Methodist Church in North Manchester. She wanted to teach her daughters at an early age how important the Lord was in their lives. Martha knew what was important in life and treasured her good friends. She was also a helping hand to countless people over the years. Martha enjoyed Kenapocomoco Home Economics Club in North Manchester, where she was also a member. Martha also relished her time outside looking for mushrooms and four leaf clovers.

The loving memory of Martha Colburn will be forever cherished by her daughters, Nancy Leiter and Diana (Alan) Macnak, both of Leesburg; brother, William (Cynthia) Mullinix, Converse; sister, Beatrice Nodler, Neosho, Missouri; grandchildren, Amy (Dewand) Neely, Mitchell (Tomara) Purdy, J.P. (Dana) Pitts, and Tim (Shellie) Pitts; and great-grandchildren, Vincent Neely, Franklin Neely, and Emma Robinson. Martha was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Franklin Colburn; and brothers, Donald and John Mullinix.

Family and friends may attend Martha’s funeral service Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to the Fellowship Food Pantry, P.O. Box 14, North Manchester, Indiana 46962.

The family of Martha Colburn has entrusted McKee Mortuary with care and final arrangements.
