Lois H. Sherman, 94, North Manchester, IN died at 4:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 2, 2009 in Timbercrest Healthcare Center. She was born October 18, 1915 in Goshen, IN to J. Abe & Zura (Hess) Neff. On March 30, 1935 she married Orville J. Sherman. He died May 11, 2000. Surviving are a daughter, J. Sophia Sherman, Warsaw, IN; brothers, William Neff, New Paris, IN and Philip Neff, Goshen, IN; sister, Mrs. Ted (Iris) Hanes, Claypool, IN; brother-in-law, Lowell Anglin, Nappanee, IN and grandchildren, Matt (Carlye) Overmyer, Kodiak, AK and Brett (Jenelle) Overmyer, Warsaw, IN. Two sisters, Bonnie Lehman & Betty Anglin, are deceased. She served with the Heifer Project Internatinal in Venezuela 1948-49. 1955-57 she served in Greece for the Church World Service. 1953-54 was a bookkeeper for National Offices of the Corp Program. 1960-68 served as assistant administrator under her husband for the Mexico (IN) Church of the Brethren Home. In 1968 the Church of the Brethren moved the Mexico Home to North Manchester (IN) and established what is now the Timbercrest Senior Living Community, where Mrs. Sherman served as assistant administrator until retirement in 1979. Mrs. Sherman also worked with the Elkhart Co. Agents Office as Home Economics director and in charge of 4-H records. She worked with the Farm Bureau for 5 years preparing taxes for farmers. Mrs. Sherman was a member of Liberty Mills Church of the Brethren, Liberty Mills, IN, the Home Economic Club, Goshen, IN and a member of Church Women United. She had been a 4-H leader for 9 years in Elkhart County and served as a baking an sewing judge for other county 4-H fairs. SERVICES WILL BE MONDAY, DECEMBER 7, 2009 AT 10:30 A.M. AT TIMBERCREST CHAPEL, 2201 EAST STREET, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN. FRIENDS AND FAMILY MAY CALL ON SUNDAY, DECEMBER 6, 2009 FROM 2:00-5:00 P.M. AT MCKEE MORTUARY, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN. CALLING ALSO TWO HOURS PRIOR TO SERVICE ON MONDAY AT TIMBERCREST CHAPEL. Pastor Kelly Beutler will officiate. Burial will be Monday, Decmeber 7 at 2:00 p.m. at Violett Cemetery, Goshen, IN.
