Lamoine Charles Gemmer

Lamoine Charles Gemmer, 95, a dedicated husband, father, and hardworking carpenter, passed away on October 6, 2024, in Wabash, Indiana. Born on December 27, 1928, in Huntington, Indiana, to Henry and Edythe (Urschel) Gemmer, Lamoine led a life filled with love, family, and lifelong dedication to his craft.

Lamoine's life was filled with love and laughter, from his days at Chester High School to his service in the United States Army, and through his many career endeavors. On November 2, 1958, Lamoine married the love of his life, Nan Louise Burwick. During their sixty-three years of marriage, they were blessed with three children, Eric, Andy, and Cara. Nan later passed away on April 25, 2022.

He was a hardworking individual who poured his heart into everything he did, from his early days working on the family farm to his long and fulfilling career at Frantz Lumber, where he dedicated almost six decades of his life before his well- deserved retirement in 2017. Lamoine worked in more houses than not in North Manchester. 

Aside from his work, Lamoine found joy in spending time with his family, taking them on camping trips, fishing, and cherished family time on the lake at their cabin. He was an active member of the community, participating in organizations such as the Jaycees Club and Euchre Club, and being an attendee of the North Manchester United Methodist Church.

An avid sports enthusiast, Lamoine had a particular fondness for cheering on the New York Yankees and enjoyed watching various sports games. He shared a deep bond with his wife, Nan, embarking on memorable Caribbean cruises together over the years.

The loving memory of Lamoine Gemmer will be forever cherished by his sons, Eric (Lisa) Gemmer, Fort Wayne and Andy (Cassie) Gemmer, Decatur; daughter, Cara Penrod, North Manchester; sister, Catherine (Maurice) Frazee, Wabash; grandchildren, Tyler Penrod, Lindsey (Andrew) Kraick, Tad (Chelsie) Penrod, Jonathen (Maria) Hicks, Claire Gemmer, and Taylor (Kaleb) Johnson; and ten great-grandchildren. Lamoine was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nan Gemmer; sister, Luella Grossman; son-in-law, David Penrod; and great-grandson, Clay Harrison Penrod. 

Private services will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Servia, Indiana. 

The family of Lamoine Gemmer has entrusted McKee Mortuary with care and final arrangements.
