Josie Marie Heckaman, 19, Silver Lake, IN died at 9:50 a.m. Saturday, March 20, 2010 in Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Wayne, IN following an accident earlier that day. She was born at South Bend, Indiana on May 21, 1990 to Jay D. & Sharon (Wright) Heckaman. Her parents survive at rural Silver Lake, IN. Josie formerly worked at Dairy Queen, North Manchester for 3 years and was currently a student at Ivy Tech in Fort Wayne studying agriculture education. She graduated from Manchester High School in 2008 where she was a member of the track team, active in Future Farmers of America, and played saxophone in the Manchester High School Band. She was a 10 year member of Wabash County 4-H, a Star Camper at Camp Mollenhour, Silver Lake and had achieved her Silver Award in Girl Scouts of America. Josie loved her family and friends, enjoyed camping, the outdoors and her pets. She attended South Pleasant United Methodist Church. Also surviving are her paternal grandparents, Merl & Joann Heckaman, Warsaw,IN; maternal grandfather, Waitsel "Gummy" Wright, Akron, IN; paternal great-grandparents, Kenneth & Bonnie Gragg, Warsaw, IN; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death a her maternal grandmother, Adeline G. Matzat-Wright. Services will be held Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. from South Pleasant United Methodist Church, State Road 15 and County Road 1400N, Wabash County, IN; (3 miles south of Silver Lake). Friends and family may call on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 from 3 - 8 p.m. and McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, IN and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Pastor Nikki Marker will officiate and burial will follow in South Pleasant Cemetery. For those who wish to honor the memory of Josie Marie Heckaman, memorial contributions may be made to Future Farmers of America Chapter at Manchester High School, c/o McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, IN.
