John R. Graham

John R. Graham, 90, North Manchester passed away on June 3, 2020 at Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester at 6:35 p.m. John was born in Kokomo, Indiana on September 28, 1929 to Charles and Bertha (Zimmerman) Graham and was one of eleven children.

John served in the United States Army during the Korean War, then was a member and past post commander of the American Legion Post #286 and the Fifth District vice Commander of the American Legion. He was a life member of the VFW Rochester #4343 and the Eagles Lodge in North Manchester. John graduated from Chester High School class of 1946. Three years later, he married Margaret Schackman on June 30, 1950. John and Margaret spent fifty-seven years together before she passed away on December 22, 2007. John enjoyed farming and retired from Todd Hoffman Calf Barns in Silver Lake, Indiana.

John is survived by his sons, Reverend Harold (Becky) Graham, Fort Wayne, IN and Joe (Annette) Graham, Silver Lake, IN; three daughters, Barbara (Frank) Schaetzle, Bourbon, IN, Linda (Charles) David, Smithville, TN, and Tina (John ) Duckett, Seymour, IN; three brothers, James (Velma) Graham, Moline, Illinois, Bob (Kathy) Graham, Bennettsville, SC, and Paul (Peggy) Graham, Bridgewater, VA; three sisters, Susan (Arlis) Sheffield, Bedford, VA, Ruth Anderson, Denver, IN, and Esther Givens, Kokomo, IN; eleven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and four great great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Thomas Graham, passed away on June 25, 1984, one brother, Bill Graham, and three sisters, Mary Christman, Edna Jackson, and Norma Windmiller.

A graveside service will be held June 27, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Oaklawn Cemetery, 600 Beckley Street, North Manchester.
