Joan Eunice Young, 90, North Manchester, IN died at 12:45 p.m. Thursday, November 14, 2013 in Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester, IN. She was born November 14, 1923 in New Paris, IN to Charles Albert & Bessie May (Cripe) Neff. On July 20, 1946 she married Jay Bruce Young. She was a 1941 graduate of New Paris High School and graduated from Manchester College in 1945 where she received an A.B. Degree in English, Biology and Library Science. She also graduated from Indiana State Library School, Indianapolis, IN, in 1945. She worked as the children's librarian in the Goshen, IN public library. Joan was a member of Eel River Community Church of the Brethren, Silver Lake, IN and has been very active in the church, as teacher, deacon, Women's Fellowship President and served several years as the Indiana State Treasurer of Church Women United. She and her husband, Bruce, served as houseparents for a BVS unit in Fresno, CA in 1954. She spent most of her time on the farm as a homemaker. She cared for fruit and vegetable crops, certified 'organic' and has done much canning and freezing. She is survived by her husband Jay Bruce Young, North Manchester, IN and one brother, Charles H. (Laveta) Neff, Goshen, IN. Two sisters are deceased. Memorial service will be December 14, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in Timbercrest Chapel, 2201 East Street, North Manchester, IN. Family and friends may call one hour prior to service at Timbercrest Chapel.
