Jean P. Ireland, 86, North Manchester, IN died at 6:49 p.m. Saturday, August 21, 2010 at his residence. He was born June 3, 1924 at Laketon, Indiana to Asa & Cassie (Miller) Ireland. On May 11, 1969 he married Marie R. Metzger. She died May 16, 2005. Surviving are four sons, Michael (Nancy) Ireland, Arvada, CO; W. Patrick (Carol) Ireland, Blue Ridge, VA; Kelly Ireland, Bloomington, IN; Mitchell Ireland, Atlanta, GA. A daughter, Kathleen "Cindy" Seward, North Manchester, IN. Twelve grandchildren, five great-grandchildren. One brother, two sisters and one grandchild are deceased. Jean graduated from Laketon High School in 1942 and served with the United States Navy during World War II on the USS Cabot. A retired farmer he purchased from his father the land on the north side of Long Lake in Wabash County which he developed into what is now known as Ireland Drive. He was a former member of the American Legion Post # 402 at Laketon, IN and was a member of American Legion Post # 286, North Manchester, IN. He and Marie spent 22 winters in Mission, Texas where he was a member of a men's choir that entertained at parks and retirement communities in that area. Services will be held Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, IN. Friends and family may call on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at McKee Mortuary. Pastor J.P. Freeman will officiate and burial will follow in Laketon Cemetery, Laketon, IN.
