Jack E. Hidy

Jack E. Hidy, 83, North Manchester, IN died at 6:04 p.m. Saturday, December 4, 2010 in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, IN. He was born at North Manchester, IN on August 10, 1927 to Gail & Iva (Bowers) Hidy. He retired in 1967 after a career in the United States Air Force serving during World War II and the Korean Conflict. For eight years he worked as a hardware store clerk in California and returned to North Manchester in 1975 and worked at United Technologies until retirement. He was a member of the American Legion Eel River Post # 286, North Manchester, IN and served as commander in 1991 and 1993. He was also a member and past commander of the V.F.W. Post # 286, Wabash, IN. Surviving are two sons, Robert (Dorothy) Hidy, North Manchester, IN; Scott Hidy, Livermore, California and a daughter, Kathleen Banks, Antioch, California. A brother, Bryan (Linda) Hidy, Ft. Wayne, IN. Six sisters, Evelyn Jane Shoudel, Ft. Wayne, IN; Elizabeth (John) Weesner, Ft. Wayne, IN; Mary (Glenn) Bryant, Portland, IN; Phyllis (Louis) Muzzilo, Auburn, IN; Barbara Prater, Warsaw, IN and Janice Frye, North Manchester, IN. Two sister-in-laws, Janice Hidy, North Manchester, IN and Pat Hidy, Wabash, IN. Two grandchildren, Nick Lapham & Roger Sossaman. Two step grandchildren, Christopher Hoyt and Vanessa Rickert. One great-grandcild and two step great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Services will be held Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. in McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, IN. Friends and family may call on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 from 4 - 8 p.m. at the mortuary. Pastor J.P. Freeman will officiate and burial will follow at South Whitley Cemetery, South Whitley, IN.
