Helen A. Evans, 89, North Manchester, IN died at 3:02 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2011 in Timbercrest Healthcare Center. She was born at Girard, Illinois on March 26, 1922 to Wilbur H. & Ada M. (Gibson) Brubaker. On December 22, 1944 she married T. Quentin Evans. He died November 18, 2007. Surviving are two daughters, Gail (Bob Knechel) Evans, Traverse City, MI and Kay Evans Ball, South Bend, IN; four grandchildren, Shane Knechel, Lafayette, IN, Tracy (Will) Sturgis, Dayton, OH, Jason (Heidi) Ball, Lansing, MI and Laura (Leon Zinn) Ball, Chicago, IL and six great-grandchildren. Helen graduated from Manchester College in 1944. She taught Sunday School for many years at Manchester Church of the Brethren where she was also a mentor to young people and a Stephen Minister. She was a former member of the College Womens Club. Charter member of ACME (Association for Couples in Marriage Enrichment), where she assisted her husband with workshops and retreats throughout the Church of the Brethren from 1973-1983. She was a hospice volunteer and a homemaker in the complete sense of the word. She created a beautiful and nurturing environment for her family. Services will be held Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. in Timbercrest Chapel, 2201 East Street, North Manchester, IN. Friends and family may call at the chapel from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Arrangements have been entrusted to McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, IN. Pastor Karen Eberly will officiate and burial will be in Manchester Church of the Brethren Memorial Graden at a later date.
