Harriet Jane Finney, 75, North Manchester, Indiana, passed away at 8:30 p.m. on April 26, 2016 at Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester, Indiana. Harriet was born on December 8, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois, to Ammon and Blanche (Miller) Wenger. She graduated from Rossville High School, Rossville, Indiana in 1959, then she went on to graduate from Manchester College in 1963 with a BS in Elementary education. In 1969 Harriet received her Master's degree in Education from Ball State University and in 1985, she received her Master of Divinity from Bethany Theological Seminary. On August 19, 1962 Harriet married Ron Finney. Harriet worked as an elementary teacher from 1963-1967, teaching one year at Rossville, Indiana and three years at Frankfort, Indiana. She taught for two years at Laurel School, Fort Collins, Colorado. From 1976-1978, she began her ministry at Northern Colorado Church of the Brethren. She was licensed and ordained during this time. Harriet then became the Associate Pastor at the Plymouth Church of the Brethren from 1980-1985, where she was the Senior Pastor from 1985-1993. From 1993-2004, Harriet was a co-team minister with her husband Ron, with the South Central Indiana District and in 2003 Harriet served as the Church of the Brethren annual conference Moderator. Harriet retired in 2004. She was a member of the Eel River Community Church of the Brethren. Harriet is survived by her husband, Ron Finney, North Manchester, Indiana; one son David (Kate) Finney, Plymouth, Indiana; one daughter Susan Finney, North Manchester, Indiana; one brother John (Helen) Wenger, Anderson, Indiana; one sister Phyllis (James) Davis; and three grandchildren Audrianna Fuentes, Tahnee Fuentes, and Matthew Finney. Harriet is preceded in death by her parents Ammon and Blanche Wenger; and one brother Alan Wenger, who passed away in 1969. Friends and family may call Thursday, April 28, 2016 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, Indiana. Services will be Friday, April 29, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at the Eel River Community Church of the Brethren, 2507 East State Road 14, Silver Lake, Indiana. The Eel River Community Church of the Brethren Pastoral Team (Pastor Roger Eberly, Pastor Janice Culp Long, and Pastor Douglas Reichenbach) will officiate. Burial will be at a later date.
