Gerald R. Seifert, 82, Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester, IN and formerly of Highland, IN died at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, January 1, 2012 in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, IN. He was born July 25, 1929 at East Chicago, Indiana to William & Jeanette (Klugkist) Seifert. On November 20, 1954 he married Theresa S. Sammon. She died April 25, 2006. He graduated from East Chicago Roosevelt High School in 1947 and earned a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University. He later earned a Masters Degree in General Engineering from Purdue. Jerry served in the United States Army from 1952-1955. He was an engineer with Inland Steel, East Chicago, IN for 40 years, retiring in 1991. He was the patentee on numerous patents relating to the steel industry. He was a member of St. Robert's Catholic Church, North Manchester, IN and a former member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Munster, IN. He was an officer in the Holy Name Society, active member of the Purdue University Alumni and a proud member of the Dinosaur Golf Association. An amateur humorist, Jerry wrote many skits, poems, and funny essays. Surviving are one son, Matthew (Tammy) Seifert, North Manchester, IN; two daughters, Kate (Jeff) Benedict, Ellicott City, MD and Tricia (Chuck Hummel) Seifert, DeSoto, TX. Four grandchildren, Julie Seifert, North Manchester, IN; Max Benedict, Ellicott City, MD; Rebecca Hummel & Stephen Hummel, DeSoto, TX. Three brothers are deceased. Rite of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Robert's Catholic Church, 1203 State Road 114 East, North Manchester, IN. Friends and family may call at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, IN on Tuesday, Janaury 3, 2012 from 3 - 7 p.m. with prayers at 7 p.m. Father Thomas Kodakassery will officiate. Burial will be at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN. For those who wish to honor the memory of Gerald R.
