Eva Mae (Foss) Buchanan, age 90 passed away on March3, 2018 in North Manchester, IN.
Eva was born May 25, 1927 to Fred and Lena (Quint) Foss in rural Massac County, IL. She married Dr. William J. Buchanan on December 13, 1953 in Metropolis, IL. He preceded her in death on January 19, 2009. In October of 2017 she then moved to assisted living in North Manchester where she was able to spend more time with her family.
Eva and Bill moved their young family to Danville, IL in 1964. While Bill built his optometry practice, Eva devoted her time to raising their two daughters, Sandra and Lisa. They enjoyed many visits with family in southern Illinois and vacations in Florida together. After Bill’s retirement they traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe. They especially loved their trips out west looking for buffalo with Eva’s brother Jim and his wife Carolyn Foss.
Eva had many interests including collecting antiques, refinishing antique furniture, and playing golf with Bill. She was well known for her beautiful flower gardens. She loved bringing home ferns and flowers from southern Illinois to be transplanted in her yard. Buying flowers from Danville Gardens was always a highlight. Jim Meyer kept her yard looking immaculate and they loved driving around looking at the countryside. One of her greatest passions was china painting. For over 35 years she and a group of friends including her dear friend, Carryl Fox, painted together and shared many hours of fellowship. Her legacy will live on with the flowers she shared and the painted china she lovingly created.
She was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and participated in the Tuesday morning Bible study. She was a longtime member of Danville Garden Club and Country Garden China Guild. Eva especially loved eating lunch at Charlottes Coffee and Tea Shop and made many good friends there.
Eva was preceded in death by her loving husband Bill, parents Lena and Fred Foss and her brothers Lowell and Billy Joe. She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Buchanan (Gary) of Mentone, IN, and Lisa Kewley (Rich) of Appleton, WI. She dearly loved her grandchildren, Elizabeth Hann (Bryan), Ryan Hann (Jeanna), Eve Kewley, Nick Kewley and Alicia McCanna. She is also survived by Debbie Owens who she considered to be her third daughter. Her brother Jim Foss and nieces survive in Metropolis, IL. Her welcoming spirit, warm smile and the twinkle in her eye will be kept alive in our hearts.
