Elsie "Ruth" Ebey

Elsie "Ruth" Ebey, 93, North Manchester, IN died at 11:00 p.m. Friday, December 11, 2009 in Timbercrest Healthcare Center. She was born at Calhoun County, MI to Alfred A. & Emma V. (Black) Gardner. On August 18, 1940 she married Rev. Robert Ebey. He died September 27, 2009. Ruth graduated from Battle Creek (MI) High School in 1934 and from Manchester College in 1939, where she earned a BS degree in elementary education. She retired in 1981 after 25 years as an elementary school teacher. She and her husband served churchs in Puerto Ricco, Michigan and Indiana. She was an active volunteer at Timbercrest Senior Living Community, North Manchester, where she and her husband had resided since 1991. They celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on August 18, 2009. Surviving are three daughters, Mary Ebey, Greenville, OH; Alice (Douglas) Archer, South Bend, IN; Esther Ebey (Wayne Barnard), Hinton, VA. Four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was a member of Manchester Church of the Brethren. SERVICES WILL BE HELD TUESDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2009 AT 2:30 P.M. IN TIMBERCREST CHAPEL, 2201 EAST STREET, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN. FRIENDS AND FAMILY MAY CALL AT THE CHAPEL ON TUESDAY FROM 2:00 - 2:30 P.M. Pastor Kurt Borgamnn will officiate and burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, North Manchester.
