E. Joan Leedy, 96, Goshen, Indiana, formerly of North Manchester, Indiana, passed away September 26, 2021 at Greencroft Healthcare in Goshen. Born December 8, 1924 in Plainfield, Indiana, Joan was the daughter of the late Cecil and Violet (Stephens) Carnine.
In her early years, Joan spent most of her childhood in Scottsburg, Indiana, where she graduated high school in 1941. After high school she began working in Indianapolis and met Doral K. Leedy while he was in the Army. The two were wed on April 17, 1942. During their nearly sixty-three years of marriage, they created many memories including their roller-skating dates and camping adventures. In 1963 Joan and Doral rented an RV to see their daughter at college. They fell in love with camping and continued the hobby until 2005. Joan and Doral were members and past directors of the NCHA/FCRV (Family Campers and RVer’s) for thirty-five years.
For twenty years the Leedys called North Manchester home before moving to Crawfordsville and then Bristol, Indiana. After that, they spent eighteen years in Florida before returning to North Manchester. During their moves, Joan and Doral always found a church. They were members at the Congregational Christian Church in North Manchester and the First Presbyterian Church in Bonita Springs, Florida. Joan was also a member of the Wabash County and Elkhart County Extension Homemakers. After Doral died Joan moved to Goshen. During her time in independent living at Greencroft, she became an avid bingo player. Joan always enjoyed when her family would bring her a Coke and hamburger from McDonalds. During her life, Joan had a passion for craft work and sewing for others.
