Edward Prater

October 3, 1923 — November 22, 2019

Silver Lake

Edward Prater went home to be with the Lord on November 22, 2019 at 7:26 p.m. Edward was a resident of Silver Lake, Indiana but recently lived at Mason Healthcare, Warsaw, Indiana. Born October 3, 1923 Edward was one of nine children of Malcom and Plina (Ousley) Prater in Blue River, Kentucky.

During World War II, Edward worked for the Railroad. Then, in 1960 he moved to Silver Lake, Indiana, after his mother passed away. A few years after moving to Silver Lake, Edward married Esther Boyer on September 1, 1962. The two were wed for nearly forty-four years before Esther passed away on June 16, 2006. During their time together, Edward and Esther had two children. Edward was a kind person who helped raise his sister and helped his mom after his father died. He was always seen in a happy mood and would help anyone in need. Edward loved to garden and often grew so much that he would give away most of it. Though he was a strict father, he always supported his daughters. He taught them by example, none greater than his example of faith. Edward gave his life to the Lord. He was a faithful member of Gospel Hill Pentecostal Church and a trustee for many years. On Saturdays Edward enjoyed going to the sale barn in Rochester, Indiana, and from time to time came home with a calf or two. Age never stopped Edward. He cut his own firewood into his 90s and drove until he was 92.

The loving memory of Edward Prater will be cherished by his two daughters, Judy Carol Prater, Silver Lake, Indiana and Patricia Ann (Ronnie) Hackworth, Akron, Indiana; one sister, Arizona Dotson Sears, Wabash, Indiana; two grandchildren, Sarah (Jeromy) Green and Kaitlyn (Aaron) Gambill; three great-grandsons, Logan and Easton Green, and Max Gambill; and his Gospel Hill Pentecostal Church family. Edward was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Esther Prater; two brothers, Talt and Asberry Prater; five sisters, Roxie and Allie Hale, Lona Hughes, Lizzie Whitaker, and Lola Robinson; and one great-granddaughter, Hannah Gambill.
