E. Dewayne Snell

E. DeWayne Snell, 92, North Manchester, IN died at 7:55 p.m. Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Timbercrest Healthcare Center. He was born at North Manchester, Indiana July 3, 1920 to Melvin R. & Trevah P. (Farley) Snell. On July 14, 1945 he married Doris B. Bowers. She survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Marsha (Michael) Flora, Fort Wayne, IN. A son-in-law, Robert Gonzalez, Naperville, IL. One brother, Robert (Sheila) Snell, Indianapolis, IN and a sister, Mrs. Russell (Joann) Hoover, North Manchester, IN. Four grandchildren, Dr. Darcy Flora, Denver, CO; Megan (James) Chappo, Dallas, TX; Christine Gonzalez and Rachel Gonzalez, both of Naperville, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Tamara Gonzalez, and two sisters, Lucille Walters and Louise Sroufe. DeWayne was employed with Heckman Bindery at North Manchester for 23 years and later retired in 1983 after 23 years as district circulation manager for Fort Wayne Newspapers. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during WW II and a member of Manchester Church of the Brethren. He graduated from Laketon High School and attended Indiana Business College. He served in General Patton's 3rd Army 95th Infantry Division "The Iron Men Of Metz". He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and the Presidential Citation from President Roosevelt. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 286 at North Manchester and a former member of the North Manchester Lions Club and North Manchester JayCees. He was a former member of the Elks Lodge at Wabash, IN. Services will be held Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in Manchester Church of the Brethren, 1306 N. Beckley Street, North Manchester, IN where calling will begin one hour prior to the services. Friends and family may call on Friday, April 19, 2013 from 2:00 - 4:00 & 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, IN. Pastor Kurt Borgmann and Pastor Karen Eberly will officiate. Burial with military rites will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester, IN. For those who wish to honor the memory of E.
