Dorothy Mae Crain, 85, North Manchester, IN died Monday, August 25, 2014 at 4:57 a.m. in Parkview Huntington Hospital, Huntington, IN. She was born August 2, 1929 in Omaha, NE to Clarence and Lillian (Kavan) Pearson. Dorothy graduated from San Diego High School in 1947 after attending Monterey High School. She began her civil service career when she was a US Navy wife in the 1950's and returned to that service after raising her children. She retired in 1994 at the Naval Postgraduate School in Montery, CA. She was an impressive athlete in high school. Dorothy was a member of Pacific Grove Church of Christ, Pacific Grove, CA and a member of California Scholarship Federation. She enjoyed a life-long passion for classic Hollywood cinema and took great pride in raising her two children and maintaining house and home. She is survived by her son, Steven D. (Lori) Crain, McPherson, KS; her daughter, Kathleen M. Jacobus, Ellicott City, MD and four grandchildren, Erin, Jennifer, Dave and Nate. Services will be Sunday, August 31, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Timbercrest Chapel, 2201 East Street, North Manchester, IN. The family will receive friends half hour prior to services. Pastor Carol Pfeiffer will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in El Carmelo Cemetery, Pacific Grove, CA. For those who wish to honor the memory of Dorothy Mae Crain, memorial contributions may be given to Timbercrest Charitable Assistance Fund, PO Box 501, North Manchester, IN 46962.
