Donn D. Kesler

Donn D. Kesler, 91, North Manchester, IN died at 12:23 a.m. Monday, August 13, 2018 at Timbercrest Healthcare Center.  He was born at South Bend, IN on April 7, 1927 to Raymond & Bertha A. (Long) Kesler.  Moving to Peru, IN with his parents, they attended the Peru Church of the Brethren.  It was there he first saw Mary Angle, his future wife.  Donn and Mary were married on August 29, 1948.  They would later enjoy camping and touring every state in the union as well as Canada and Mexico.  They wintered in Mission, TX for 17 years and moved to Timbercrest Senior Living Community in 2004.  Mary preceded him in death on March 8, 2006.  His boyhood memories included trips with his father to see the Chicago Cubs, family camping trips visiting points of interest in the United States and camping at Camp Mack during his teen years.

Donn was a school teacher from 1951-1959, and principal from 1959-1968 at Milford High School.  Later he was vice principal at Wawasee High School, Syracuse, IN from 1968 until his retirement in 1992.  He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Milford, IN, Kosciusko County Retired Teachers Association and Milford Area Development.  He participated in 2 trips to China as a sea-going cowboy with Heifer Project International.

Active in church work, Donn was a member of Bethany Church of the Brethren, New Paris, IN where he and Mary served as Sunday School teachers and deacons.  Donn also served a moderator of the church for a number of years and volunteered as treasure of Camp Mack for 31 years.  He was named Volunteer of the Year by Outdoor Ministries.

Donn is survived by two daughters, Linda Kesler, Concord, CA and Diane (Richard) Kesler-Collins, Danville, CA.  A son-in-law, Rex Brock, Bourbon, IN; two sisters, Rosemary Hamby, Spokane, WA and Eileen Fogarty, South Bend, IN.  A sister-in-law, Ruthann Angle, North Manchester, IN.  Also surviving are four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.  His daughter, Nancy Brock passed away on February 22, 2014.  Also preceding him in death were a brother and a sister.

Services for Donn D. Kesler will be held Sunday, August 26, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. at Manchester Church of the Brethren, 1306 Beckley Street, North Manchester, IN.  Friends and family may call two hours prior to services.  Chaplain Laura Stone will officiate.  Graveside services and burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, August 26, 2018 at Milford Cemetery, 13029 N  60 W, Milford, IN.  Arrangements are entrusted to McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, IN.
