David Charles Hartman

November 14, 1963 — November 18, 2023

North Manchester

David Charles Hartman, 60, North Manchester, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones. Born November 14, 1963, in Napoleon, Ohio, David was the son of the late Charles Pallum and Ruth (Christy) Hartman. His father passed away when David was five years old, and he was then adopted by David Hartman.

David attended Howell Military school before graduating from Whitko High School in 1982. He was able to see much of the United States when he became a truck driver in 1985 and drove for various companies for thirty-eight years before finding his work home at Swihart Trucking in Silver Lake. David was forced to retire in the last few months due to his health.

On January 16, 1987, David married Brenda Cline, and the two were blessed with three children, Austin Hartman, Nicole Hartman, and their bonus son, Joe Easterday. David was a fun father and had a sense of humor that made every situation lighter. His children’s friends always wanted to spend time at the Hartman home, as David was welcoming and non-judgmental, affectionately known as Papa or Pops by most who knew him. As much as David loved his wife, children, family, and friends, no one meant more to him than his grandbabies. They were the joy of his life, and he loved seeing them grow.

Before his health worsened, David loved taking his Harley out for rides. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and especially loved Harley Davidsons. He also enjoyed going to the Moose Lodge 1518 in North Manchester, where he was a member, to socialize with friends.  David also had a fondness for all animals, especially his own dog and cat.

The loving memory of David Charles Hartman will be forever cherished by his wife, Brenda Hartman, North Manchester; son, Austin (Alyssa Bassett) Hartman, North Manchester; daughter, Nicole Hartman, North Manchester; bonus son, Joe Easterday, Fort Wayne; brothers, Jason Hartman, St. Petersburg, Florida, and Michael (Melissa) Rogers, South Whitley; sisters, Kathy (Gaylen) Sopher, Oswego, Cheryl Rogers, South Whitley, and Theresa (Chris) Grinstead, Fort Wayne; and his pride and joy, his seven grandchildren. David was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Pallum, Ruth Hartman, and David Hartman.
