D. Dewayne Monce

D. DeWayne Monce, 88, North Manchester, IN died Thursday, February 12, 2015 in Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester, IN. He was born December 22, 1926 in Wabash County, IN to Daniel Rupert & Bonnie (Baker) Monce. On May 18, 1947 he married Jane Ann Burkhart. She died July 17, 1996. He graduated from Urbana High School in 1945. He served in the European Theater as a communication specialist sitting in shacks in the mountains intercepting enemy messages. He was proud to be a WW II veteran. Member of American Legion Post # 286, Moose Lodge # 1518, both of North Manchester, IN and Elks Lodge, Warsaw, IN. He and his wife, Jane, fostered 19 foster children. He has many nieces and nephews he leaves behind. DeWayne loved people and serving which is why he spent his working the jobs he did. He taught his children an amazing work ethic and the gift of hospitality. Anyone who knew Jane and DeWayne knows their home was never without someone "dropping" in! His favorite story was sitting on Otho Winger's knee as he talked to THE Indian Chief. He said as a little boy this was quite a day! He shall be always be loved and missed....right "Babe?" He was a member of Congregational Christian Church, North Manchester, IN. DeWayne was manager of the FW Means Company. He also had his own cleaning business and cleaned many institutions and companies in Warsaw until he was in late 70's. Retired from Lowman's Enterprises (National Dust), Warsaw, IN. He is survived by two sons, Vincent Drake (Missy) Monce, Enon, OH and Tony (Teri) Monce, Silver Lake, IN; two daughters, Deborah (Lennie) Edwards Jr., Warsaw, IN and Hannah Logg, Apache Junction, AZ; one brother, Donald E. (Alice) Monce, Fort Wayne, IN; one sister Donna Yentes, Urbana, IN; seven grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren. One brother, David Monce, is deceased. Family and friends may call Tuesday, February 17, 2015 6:00-8:00 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, IN. Services Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, IN. Pastor J. P. Freeman will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, IN. For those who wish to honor the memory of DeWayne Monce, memorial contributions may be made to Cardinal Learning Center, 504 N.
