Barbara L. Driskell, 82, North Manchester, Indiana passed away at 3:10 p.m. on July 9, 2018 at Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester. One of three children, Barbara was born on June 4, 1936 to Lee J. and Pearl (Robinson) Helm in Kansas City, Missouri.
After graduating from Northeast High School, Kansas City, Missouri, where she was in Honors Society, Barbara married Joseph Driskell on September 24, 1954. The two were married for 63 years and had two children. During these years, Barbara was a self-employed piano teacher for over 50 years. She taught mostly children and teenagers. After doing this for many years, Barbara started teaching the sons and daughters of her former students. She often joked with Joseph that if she started getting the grandchildren of the students she once taught, it was time for her to retire.
As member of Sycamore Hill Baptist Church for 18 years and Maywood Baptist Church for 60 years, church life was an important aspect of Barbara's life. It was here that she taught Sunday school for youth and adults, lead the choir, read comical parodies that she wrote, and played piano for Sunday services. Barbara was a loving and nurturing wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She and Joseph had an open door policy for people who needed help and guidance in life.
Barbara will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Joseph Driskell, North Manchester, Indiana; one daughter Debra J. (Robert) Lynn, North Manchester, Indiana; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, and a daughter-in-law, Debbie Driskell. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Pearl Helm; one son, Gary L. Driskell; and two sisters.
Services will be held Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. at Maywood Baptist Church, 10505 East Winner Road, Independence, MO.
