Arlene L. Barney, born on June 21, 1933, in Wabash County, to Lauren and Mary Jane (Sells) Werking, entered through the gates of Heaven, greeting her husband, daughter, and son on March 25, 2025. Her journey spanned 91 years, marked by unwavering faith and dedication to both her family, church, and friends.
Arlene's educational foundation began at Sidney High School, where she graduated in 1952. She went on to build a remarkable career that would last for over 40 years at Indiana Lawrence Bank. As a bookkeeper, teller, and ultimately a valued member of the Loan Department, her commitment to her work was evident, culminating in her retirement in 2000.
On December 31, 1958, Arlene married Harlo E. Barney, who until his passing on March 16, 1994, stood by her side through the many chapters of their life together. A strong Christian woman, Arlene's faith was a guiding light in her life; she was an active member of the Liberty Mills Church of the Brethren, where she found fellowship and purpose.
In addition to her deep faith, Arlene was a proud member of PSI IOTA, contributing her time and talents to an organization that reflected her values and commitment to community service. She was known for her kindness, her strength of character, and her unwavering belief in the goodness of people.
The loving memory of Arlene Barney will be forever cherished by her grandchildren, Elizabeth (Scott) Glass, North Manchester and Jay (Krista) Bentley, Henderson, Nevada; great-grandchildren, Brynlee and Baylor Glass; daughter-in-law, Tracy (Jack) Bentley, Wabash; her church family; and all the friends she made throughout her life. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harlo Barney; son, Brock Barney; daughter, Lori Barney; and brother, Duane Werking.
Family and friends may call Friday, March 28, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. with calling at 8:00 a.m. at Liberty Mills Church of the Brethren, 103 North 3rd Street, Liberty Mills, with Pastor Erin Huiras officiating.
