Anita Mae Miller

Anita Mae Miller, 71, Wabash, Indiana, formerly of North Manchester, passed away on August 17, 2022 at Parkview Randallia Hospital in Fort Wayne. She was born on November 13, 1950 in Greenville, Ohio, the daughter of Rev. L. Byron and Zola Miller. She graduated from Hagerstown High School, Hagerstown, Indiana, in 1969 and from Ball State University in 1973 with a B.S. degree in Social Work and Psychology. She completed a year of service with Brethren Volunteer Service after college and worked as a houseparent in a group home for teenage girls in Denver, Colorado. In 1977, Anita obtained her Masters of Education from Kent University, Kent, Ohio, and worked with student housing at West Virginia Wesleyan College and then as Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Counseling Services at Manchester University from 1980-1982. For the rest of her career, she worked in the social services field and co-directed a cancer support group for a number of years in Elkhart County. She worked as an addiction’s counselor at several hospitals in Indiana and was most recently employed for five years (2007-2012) at Youth Service Bureau in Wabash, Indiana as the Coordinator of Section 8 (subsidized housing) for Wabash County. Her hobbies included collecting antiques, restoring antique picture frames, needlework, genealogy, and she was an avid IU basketball fan. She loved spending time with family and friends. Anita was a member of the Goshen City Church of the Brethren and Delta Zeta Sorority. She is survived by two sisters, Rowena (Darrel) Fourman of Fayetteville, Georgia and Lillian Long of Philippi, West Virginia; two brothers, Julian Miller of Riverview, Florida and Stanley (Linda) Miller of North Manchester, Indiana; nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces, and a large extended family. She was a loving care giver for her parents, who preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 27 at Eel River Community Church of the Brethren, 2507 State Road 14, Silver Lake, Indiana, at 2:30 p.m. with viewing beginning at 12:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana, 6316 Mutual Drive, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46825.  The family of Anita Miller has entrusted McKee Mortuary with care and final arrangements.
