Abraham "Abe" Shepherd

Abraham “Abe” Shepherd, 82, Silver Lake, passed away on March 3, 2022 at his home. The son of Sylvester and Nancy (Nelson) Shepherd, Abe was born December 22, 1939 in David, Kentucky.

After his family moved from Kentucky to the Sidney area in 1940, Abe attended Sidney school. Starting work at a young age, Abe focused on his passion for fixing things and working outdoors. He worked construction, home maintenance and as a mechanic part time, but his full time job was pouring concrete for W & W Concrete Company for thirty-six years before retiring. Abe was a hard worker and took great pride in perfecting his skills and providing quality service.

On August 28, 1993, Abe married Lura Dean Hicks. He was a loving husband and father and was always very good to all who surrounded him. Abe always enjoyed teasing people and had a great sense of humor. He loved sitting on his porch watching traffic go by and enjoyed filling his huge sweet tooth.

The loving memory of Abraham “Abe” Shepherd will be forever cherished by his wife, Lura Dean (Hicks) Shepherd, Silver Lake; sons, Donny (Pam) Shepherd, Roann, and Roy (Stacey) Shepherd, Claypool; daughters, Patricia Sanders, Warsaw, Brenda Hilton, North Manchester, Tiffany (Stephen) Taylor, Urbana, Tonya (Ricky) Cook, Warsaw, and Kimberly (Matthew) Shepherd, Claypool; step-son, David (Amanda J.) Bradley, North Manchester; step-daughters, Cheryl (Louis) Reimer, Pierceton, Sheila Bradley, Pierceton, and Samantha (Christopher Siinpiel) Bradley, Silver Lake; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Abraham was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester and Nancy (Nelson) Shepherd; five brothers, Walter Shepherd, Wiley Shepherd, John Shepherd, David Shepherd, and Nathan Shepherd; two sisters, Mary Ann Shepherd and Juanita “Kit” Brown.

Family and friends may call Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, Indiana. Funeral services will begin at the conclusion of calling. Pastor Bob Brown and Pastor Glen Hughes will officiate. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake, Indiana.
