Carol Ann (Kreider) Yoder Spann

August 30, 1934 — October 20, 2023

North Manchester

Carol Ann Yoder Spann, 89, North Manchester, passed away on October 20, 2023, at Timbercrest Healthcare Center in North Manchester. The daughter of the late Wilbur L. and Madaline (Reiff) Kreider, Carol was born on August 30, 1934, in Wabash County.

As a child, Carol was blessed to travel the continental United States. She was a member of Sunshine Society at Central High School, from where she graduated in 1952. She married Edward Yoder in 1953, and the couple relocated to Wichita, Kansas for a year before moving back to North Manchester. During their forty-five years of marriage, Edward and Carol were blessed with five children, Mary Jo, Lynne, Gina, Marcia and Todd Yoder. Edward sadly passed away on October 27, 1998. Carol was blessed to find love again and married Phil A. Spann on November 27, 1999. The two enjoyed fishing with friends in Wisconsin and made many memories together over the course of the next eighteen years before Phil passed on January 31, 2018.

Carol worked at Wendel’s Décor Shoppe in sales, decorating, and cleaning for twenty-five years. She possessed a deep passion for decorating and also loved to cook, visit with her many friends, and birdwatch. She delighted in seeing hummingbirds, which were her favorite. Most of all, though, Carol loved being with family and reading her Bible. On Sundays she attended Liberty Mills Church of the Brethren, where she was a member. With a servant’s heart, Carol volunteered with Meals on Wheels, tended the Timbercrest Gift Shop, taught both Bible study and Sunday School, and was a deaconess at Liberty Mills Church of the Brethren.

The loving memory of Carol Yoder Spann will be forever cherished by her son, Todd Yoder, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; daughters, Mary Jo (Randy) Weimann, North Manchester, Lynne (Ron) Behny, North Manchester, Gina (John) Jonassen, Walkerville, Michigan, and Marcia (Brian) Panzer, Fort Wayne; stepdaughter, Susan Curtis, North Manchester; sixteen grandchildren; forty-three great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Madaline Kreider; husbands, Edward Yoder and Phil Spann; stepson, David L. Spann; brother, Wendell Kreider; sister, Donna Kreider; and grandson, James Spann.
