  • JUDY K. ULREY, 59, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN

     

    Judy K. Ulrey,  59, of North Manchester, IN., passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at 7:40 p.m. at Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Wayne, IN surrounded by family and friends.  She was born November 12, 1952 in Rochester, IN to Harold R. and Esther M. (Lewis) Wrightsman, both of Silver Lake, IN.  She was a member of the Wabash Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She was a beloved housewife, mother, and homemaker. She enjoyed feeding her dogs, many cats, hummingbirds, squirrels, and wild birds. She also appreciated setting outside on her porch and conversing with friends and neighbors.  She married Gerald Scott Ulrey Jr. on August 7, 1970. He survives in North Manchester, IN.  Other survivors include three daughters, Michelle Waters, Michigan, Maria Blair of North Manchester, IN, and Nicole Ulrey of Claypool, IN, and five grandchildren. Two sisters,  Joyce (Tom) Higgs, Harlan, IN, Debra  Wrightsman,  Ft, Wayne, IN, and one brother, Michael Wrightsman, Silver Lake, IN. She was preceded in death by her youngest brother, Jerry Wrightsman. Memorial Service will be December 17, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 3741 W 100 S, Wabash, IN. Family and friends may call one hour prior to the service at the  Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Ben Barker will officiate. For those who wish to honor the memory of Judy K.   • HOWARD N. UHRIG, 87, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN

     

    Howard N. Uhrig, 87, North Manchester, IN died at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, August 2, 2011 in Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Wayne, IN.  He was born near Phillipsburg, Montgomery County, Ohio on May 25, 1924 to Alfred & Mary (Surber) Uhrig. On June 26, 1949 he married Mary Kathryn Fish, she survives.  Also surviving is a daughter, Rebecca (Lowell) Shearer, Ft. Wayne, IN.  Two grandchildren, Dr. Jennifer Nunnally and David (Trinity) Shearer, both of Ft. Wayne, IN.  Three great-grandchildren, Kathryn Parker, Belton, TX; David Nunnally and Nigella Shearer-Wilds, both of Ft. Wayne, IN.  A brother, Damon (Norma) Uhrig, Troy, OH.  A nephew, Steven (Debbie) Uhrig.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, John Howard Uhrig.  A member of the Manchester Church of the Brethren, he served on District Boards with the Church of the Brethren.  He graduated from Phillipsburg (OH) High School in 1942 and received a BS degree in Physics from Manchester College.  He received his Masters Degree in Audio Visual Education from Indiana University and had completed extensive work toward a doctoral degree.  An active Rotarian for over 50 years, he was a member of the North Manchester Rotary Club.  He was also a member of the St. Joseph County Mental Health Association, South Bend, IN and the State Audio-Visual Association.  He was a member and past president of Phi Delta Kappa.  He taught physics and math at Noble High School in Wabash for two years, and at Whites Institute for one year before joining the faculty at Manchester College in 1955 where he taught Audio-Visual Education and Engineering Drawing.  In 1957 he became an administrator  of the South Bend Community Schools and later became Director of the Audio-Visual Department, retiring in 1986.  He received special recognition from the Rotary Club, Phi Delta Kappa and the St. Joseph County Mental Health Association by the naming of Uhrig Apartments.    Services will be held Friday, August 12, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in Timbercrest Chapel, 2201 East Street, North Manchester, IN.  The family will receive friends following the service at Timbercrest Chapel.  Pastor David Bibbee and Pastor Kurt Borgmann will officiate.  Burial will be in Manchester Church of the Brethren Memorial Garden.  Final care is entrusted to McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, IN.  For those who wish to honor the memory of Howard N.   • SUSAN A. URSCHEL, 74, FORMERLY OF BIPPUS, IN

     

    Susan A. Urschel, 74, Leesburg, IN (Saw Mill Lake), and formerly of Bippus, Indiana died at 10:46 a.m. Sunday, May 30, 2010 at Parkview Huntington Hospital, Huntington, IN.  She was born at Bippus, Indiana on November 5, 1935 to Roy G. & Mary F. (Huffman) Lancaster.  She graduated from Bippus High School in the class of 1953.  On November 18, 1956 she married Marion B. Urschel Jr.  He died July 30, 2001.  A homemaker, she was a seamstress with Oppenheim Store and later, with Mabel Urschel, formed a custom drapery shop known as Iron Kettle Draperies.  She taught sewing and quilting through the Huntington County Home Extension Office and later through Huntington County adult education classes.  She was an active member in the Huntington Heritage Guild at the Forks-of-the-Wabash and the Night-N-Gals Extension Homemakers Club.  She enjoyed sewing, reading and quilting.  She was an active member of the New Hope United Church of Christ, Bippus, IN and served as church board president during the consolidation of St. John's United Church of Christ at Bippus and Servia United Church of Christ at Servia, IN.  She was also an active volunteer with the Senior Pack Program at Huntington, IN.  Surviving are two sons, Chris (Rena) Urschel, Bippus, IN; Eric (Kay) Urschel, Leo, IN.  One daughter, Mrs. Mike (Amy) Frick, Zanesville, IN.  Five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  A brother, Ronald (Esther) Lancaster, Huntsville, AL.  Two sisters, Mrs. Ronald (Judith) Moeller, Columbia City, IN and Mrs. Dan (Beth) Zile, Wentzville, MO.  Services will be held Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in New Hope United Church of Christ, 9160W  800 N, Bippus, IN.  Friends and family may call from 9 a.m. until service time at the church.  Arrangements have been entrusted to McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, IN.  Pastor Larry Holderbaum and Pastor Lois Landrum will officiate.  Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Bippus, IN.   For those who wish to honor the memory of Susan Urschel, memorial contributions may be made to New Hope United Church of Christ, PO Box 125, Bippus, IN 46713 or Senior Pack Program, c/o St. Peter's First Community Church, 206 Etna Ave., Huntington, IN 46750.  To send a private condolence to the family, use the CONDOLENCE link on the HOMEPAGE.
