  • JIMMY D. PURVIS, 57, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN

     

    Jimmy D. Purvis, 57, North Manchester, IN died at 8:17 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Wayne, IN.  He was born April 27, 1955 at Owingsville, KY to Ewell & Mary Alice (Withrow) Purvis.  Before it's clsoing, he had worked at Warner Corp., North Manchester.  Surviving are two sons, Jimmy L. Purvis, Marion, IN and Michael D. (Amanda) Purvis, Plymouth, IN.  A daughter, Michaela Gordon, Wabash, IN and seven grandchildren.  Also surviving are four brothers, William Staton and Herman Staton, both of North Manchester.  David Purvis, Owingsville, KY and Kenny Purvis, Servia, IN.  A sister, Ann Francis Staton, Kentucky.  A brother, Ewell Jean Purvis and a sister, Jeanie Sue Shepherd are deceased.  A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at his residence, 812 Thorn Street, North Manchester, IN.  Friends and family may call at the residence from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on May 18.  To assist the family will final expenses, memorial contributions may be made to McKee Mortuary. 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, IN 46962.  To send a private condolence to the Purvis family, use the Condolence link on the Homepage.

  • IONA D. POSTON, 83, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN

     

    Iona D. Poston, 83, North Manchester, IN died at 1:05 a.m. Thursday, January 10, 2013 in Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester, IN. She was born October 5, 1929 in Laketon, IN to Charles R. & Adelia (Moore) Shaffer, Sr.  She graduated from Laketon High School in 1947.  On June 6, 1948  she married William H. Poston. He died August 10, 2008.  Iona was a homemaker and a sales rep with Old Fort Specialty, Fort Wayne, IN.  She was a member of Laketon American Legion Post #402 Auxiliary, Laketon, IN.  She is survived by two sons, Michael J. (Bonnie) Poston, Winston-Salem, NC and Kim A. (Rida) Poston, Cullman, AL; two daughters, Deborah Dee Young, Fort Wayne, IN and Mrs. Ken (Diana Lee) Lybarger, North Manchester, IN; one brother, Charles R. Shaffer Jr., Laketon, IN; one sister, Mrs. Barnett (Marcia) Wolfrum, LaFontaine, IN; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.  Services will be January 19, 2013 at 11:00 a.m at Peabody Chapel, 400 W. Seventh Street, North Manchester, IN.  The family will receive friends following the service.  Pastor J. P. Freeman and Rev.   • JOAN J. POE, 81, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN

     

    Joan J. Poe, 81, North Manchester, IN died ay 7:39 a.m. Saturday, October 20, 2012 in Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Wayne, IN. She was born September 21, 1931 in Waterloo, IN to Marion & Esther (Benjamin) Dirr. She graduated from Eden (OH) High School in 1949.  Joan retired from Heckman Bindery after 43 years of service.  She was a member of the Women of the Moose Lodge #1518, North Manchester, IN and enjoyed working in her flower gardens, crocheting, traveling and traveling to see her grandchildren.  On July 17, 1984 she married Roger L. Poe. He died September 7, 2005.  She is survived by three sons, Greg A. Houser, LaFontaine, IN, Neil W. (Cindy) Houser, Kasilof, AK and Dennis L. (Valerie) Houser, North Manchester, IN; one sister, Marcella Peppler, Fort Wayne, IN; eleven grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.  One son, Michael D.   • ERMA M. PETRY, 105, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN

     

    Erma M. Petry, 105, North Manchester, IN died at 1:10 a.m. Sunday, July 15, 2012 in Timbercrest Healthcare Center.  She was born near South English, Iowa on November 28, 1906 to William & Anna (Brower) Kerr.  She graduated from South English High School and later from Mt. Morris College in 1929.  On October 8, 1932 she married Ralph Petry.  He died July 18, 1974.  Erma taught one year in Iowa and three years at Anniston, AL in a Presbyterian Missions boarding school for junior and senior African-American girls.  She taught Release Time Bible classes in the schools near Goshen, IN for seven years and near Delphi, IN for six years.  She was a pastor's wife while her husband served the Church of the Brethren including pastorates in North Dakota, Montana, Goshen, IN and Markle, IN.  She was a member of the Manchester Church of the Brethren where she served as parish visitor and sang in the choir.  Surviving are two sons, Glen (Johanna) Petry, Walkerton, IN and Ray Petry, East Dorset, VT.  Two daughters, Carol (Dr. Paul) Burkholder, Rockford, IL and Ruth Billings, Anchorage, AK.  Nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.  Two brothers are deceased.  Services will be held Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in Timbercrest Chapel, 2201 East Street, North Manchester, IN with Pastor Kurt Borgmann officiating.  Friends and family may call at Timbercrest Chapel one hour prior to the services.  Graveside services and burial will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 2012 at Markle Cemetery, Junction of State Road 116 and US 224, Markle, IN.  Arrangements are being handled at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, IN.    For those who wish to honor the memory of Erma M.   • ROBERT E. PARTRIDGE, 91, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN

     

    Robert E. Partridge, 91, North Manchester, IN died at 9:50 p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester, IN.  He was born November 13, 1920 in Chester Township, Wabash County, Indiana to Dewey & Dollie (Werking) Partridge. On November 7, 1941 he married W. Louise Cauffman.  She survives.  Bob was a 1938 graduate of Chester High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1941-1946.  He was an industrial engineer having worked for Dresser Corp. at Galion, Ohio for 14 years and retired in 1981.  He was a member of Congegational Christian Church and American Legion Post # 243, Galion, Ohio.  Also surviving are a son, Robert Michael (Carolyn) Partridge, Ridgeville, WA;  a daughter, Judith Ann Townley, Redding, CA and four grandchildren.  Three brothers are deceased.  Memorial services will be Sunday, January 8, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Congregational Christian Church, 310 N. Walnut Street, North Manchester, IN.     Bertha Lois Pennycuff, 82, Hartford City, IN formerly of Oneida, TN died Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 6:11 p.m. in I.U. Health Blackford Hospital, Hartford City, IN. She was born December 18, 1928 in Stearns, KY to Claude & Ethel (King) Tucker. On December 24, 1940 she married Rev. Bates Pennycuff. He did August 31, 1997.  She was a homemaker and member of Mountainview Baptist Church, Robbins, TN.  She is survived by two sons, Jerry Pennycuff, Floyds Knob, IN and Bill (Barb) Pennycuff, Manchester, TN; two daughters, Donna (Fred) Hollinger, Oneida, TN and Jackie Holbert, Fort Wayne, IN; one brother, Tom Tucker, Stearns, KY; five sisters, Faye Davis, Cincinnati, OH, Lorene Scott, Hartford City, IN, Joan Hall, Bradenton, FL, Phyllis Smith, Hartford City, IN and Connie Pauley, Rogers, AR; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.  Two brothers and one sister are deceased.     Kari N. Poindexter, 24, Peru, IN died at 11:58 a.m. Monday, March 28, 2011 in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN. She was born April 16, 1986 in Peru, IN to Vicki (Kindlesparker) Poindexter.  Kari was employed at Premier Playsets, Wabash, IN. She is survived by her companion, Earl VanHoose, Peru, IN; one son, Hunter Poindexter, Peru, IN; three brothers, Derek (Jaymi) Poindexter, Medina, OH, Chris (Teresa) Poindexter, Indianapolis, IN and Kenny Poindexter, Indianapolis, IN; one sister, Kelly (Brandt) Shambarger, North Manchester, IN; 6 nieces & nephews, Cody Poindexter, Bailey Poindexter, Nichole Shambarger, Zachary Poindexter, Curtis Poindexter and Marcus Poindexter.   Friends and family may call Saturday, April 2, 2011 from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 W, North Manchester, IN.   • THOMAS W. PLATT, 62, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN

     

    Thomas W. Platt, 62, North Manchester, IN died at 5:10 p.m. Thursday, November 25, 2010 in Parkview Hospital, Ft. Wayne, IN.  He was born at Huntington, Indiana on October 16, 1948 to Roy & Ruth (Switzer) Platt.  On October 25, 1969 he married Charlene J. Langston.  She died February 24, 1990.  On November 30, 1991 he married Paula J. Kerschner.  She survives.  Also surviving are a son, Wade T. Platt, North Manchester, IN and a daughter, Lynette (Vinson) Calloway, South Whitley, IN.  Two grandchildren and a brother, John (Marilyn) Platt, Roanoke, IN.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Bryan J. Platt.  Tom graduated from Huntington High School and furthered his education at Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH.  He was a Physicians Assistant at Manchester Clinic and South Whitley Medical Clinic.  Later he was a medical supply salesman.  He was a US Navy veteran during Vietnam.  Services will be held Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, IN.  Friends and family may call on Monday, November 29, 2010 from 2 - 8 p.m. at the mortuary.  Rev.   • ROGER D. PRATER, 58, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN

     

    Roger D. Prater, 58, North Manchester, IN died Monday afternoon, November 15, 2010, as a result of an automobile accident on State Road 13 north of Wabash, IN.  He was born August 19, 1952 in Prestonsburg, KY to Oliver & Junie (Salmons) Prater. He was a 1971 graduate of Southwood High School. On December 26, 1983 he married Kathy L. Woomer.  He began his career as a chef wtih Holiday & Marriott Inn's and later purchesed the Howard House Restaurant at LaFontaine, IN. While in LaFontaine he established J.P.'s Sportsman Corner with Denny Jones. Moving to North Manchester, IN he purchased The Inn and established the City Limits Catering Hall. He was the owner of Scotty's Bar in Wabash, IN and a real estate broker for Manchester Realty, North Manchester, IN. An avid hunter and outdoorsman, Roger's passions were his family and his church. He was a member of the Congregational Christian Church, Moose Lodge #1518, Demig Lodge #88 F & AM all of North Manchester, IN; Scottish Rite, Mizpah Shrine, Sons of the American Legion, Eagles Lodge, a life member of the N.R.A. and the Elks Lodge, Wabash, IN.  He is survived by his wife, Kathy Prater, North Manchester, IN; one brother, Jerry Prater, Duck River, TN; two sisters, Pauline Spohr, Centerville, TN and Willadean Skaggs, Frankfort, KY; and his canine companion, Boo.  Friends and family may call Friday, November 19, 2010 from 2:00-7:00 p.m. at Congregational Christian Church, 310 N.     Leonard "Hager" Prater, 67, North Manchester, IN died at 4:00 a.m. Saturday, September 11, 2010 at his residence.  He was born at Silver Lake, IN on July 19, 1943 to Asberry & Nazzie (Bailey) Prater.  He had worked at the former Bendix Corp. at North Manchester, IN and ParKan at Silver Lake, IN.  He was a member of the Liberty Mills Church of the Brethren and served in Vietnam with the US Army from 1966-1968.  Surviving are three sons, Len Edward Prater, North Manchester, IN / Robert Lee (Tammy) Prater, Liberty Mills, IN / Samuel T. Prater, Warsaw, IN.  Three daughters, Mrs. T.J. (Jessica) Harner, Kokomo, IN / Mrs. Earl (Angie) Ward Jr., Warsaw, IN and Jennifer Hopp, Aurora, CO.  Three grandchildren, Dakota "Boo" Prater, Phoenix Goad, both of Liberty Mills, IN, Aaron Prater, North Manchester, IN and Declan Hopp, Aurora, CO.  One brother, Stacy Prater, Athens, AL and two sisters, Mrs. Paul (Rosalea) Blanton and Mrs. Lonnie (Rachel) Harmon, both of North Manchester, IN.  Two brothers and two sisters are deceased.  Services will be held Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in Liberty Mills Church of the Brethren, 71 N.
