  • JAMES R. GEORGE, 83, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN

     

    James R. "Jim" George, 83, North Manchester, IN died at 7:10 p.m. Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Miller's Merry Manor West, Wabash, IN.  He was born at Floyd County, KY on July 22, 1929 to John & Lucile (Davis) George.  Jim was a veteran of the United States Army having served in WW II and Korea.  He worked in assembly for 13 years at General Motors and 13 years at Checker Cab Co., both at Kalamazoo, MI.  After moving to Indiana he worked for the Indiana State High-Way Dept. until retirement.  Jim would be remembered in North Manchester for the vegetable and fruit market he operated from his home on Beckley Street.  He is survived by three sons; Robert E. (Kelly) George, Lawton, MI; Terry (Linda) George, Paw Paw, MI and James Scott (Beth) George, Kalamazoo, MI.  A daughter, Mary (Keith) Heighton, Lawton, MI.  Eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.  One brother is deceased.   Graveside service Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Oaklawn Cemetery, 600 Beckley Street, North Manchester, IN. Pastor J. P.   • JANICE C. GOFF, 97, FORMERLY OF SOUTH WHITLEY, IN

     

    Janice C. Goff, 97, North Manchester, IN formerly of South Whitley, IN died at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2013 in Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester, IN.  She was born June 2, 1915 in Whitley County, IN to John & Lesta (Tschantz) Goff.  She graduated from South Whitley High School and was a member of South Whitley United Methodist Church, South Whitley, IN.  In 1980 she retired from General Electric, Fort Wayne, IN after 40 years of service in the Specialty Transformer Department.  Janice is a former member of First Wayne Street United Methodist Church, Fort Wayne, IN; G.E. Club Pen El Chapter, GE Quarter Century Club and Chapter 432 of Eastern Star, Fort Wayne, IN.  She had volunteered over 20 years at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN.  She is survived by several nieces,& nephews and great nieces and nephews.  Services will be Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Peabody Chapel, 400 W.   • MILDRED "MILLY" L. GILBERT, 87, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN

     

    Mildred Lucille Morris Gilbert, 87, North Manchester, IN died at 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 in Timbercrest Healthcare, North Manchester, IN. She was born in McPherson, Kansas on March 15, 1925 to Charles S. and Miriam Morris. On June 9, 1945 she married J. Edward Gilbert. Surviving are three daughters, Janice Gilbert Hurst, McPherson, KS; Janean Gilbert, Indianapolis, IN and Janelle Gilbert Hoffmann, New Haven, MO. Also surviving are four grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband J. Edward Gilbert who passed away on March 25, 2012, her parents, a daughter Joyce, and her brother Dwight Morris. Milly graduated from Chester High School in 1943 and attended Manchester College. Following her marriage to Ed, she joined him in College Park, Maryland during his service in the Civilian Public Service (CPS) during WWII. Afterwards, Ed and Milly moved to Kokomo, Indiana, where Milly worked as a secretary for the Salvation Army and the Kokomo Church of the Brethren. She also ran a free-lance mimeographing business from her home for more than 25 years. Milly loved writing poetry. She was a member of the Kokomo Poetry Circle for 42 years and received awards and recognition for her poems, some printed in national publications. She was an active member of the Kokomo Church of the Brethren and later was a member of the Manchester Church of the Brethren when they moved to Timbercrest Senior Living Community in 1996.   • ROBERT G. GREINER, 94, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN

     

    Robert G. Greiner, 94, North Manchester, IN died at 10:40 a.m. Wednesday, October 3, 2012 in Timbercrest Healthcare, North Manchester, IN. He was born June 11, 1918 in Lancaster County, PA to Noah & Anna (Geib) Greiner.  He graduated from Manheim (PA) High School in 1935 and attended Elizabethtown College and Northwestern University where he earned a Bachelor's degree in accounting and business law in 1949.  Bob served in Civilian Public Service at Lagro, IN from 1941-1945. From 1945-1952 he was Assistant Treasurer for the Church of the Brethren General Board at Elgin, IL.  He was appointed Treasurer of the Church of the Brethren General Board in 1952 and served until his retirement in 1981.  Following his retirement from the Church of the Brethren, he was a Real Estate Agent at Hoover-Burnidge Realtors, Elgin, IL from 1981-1991. He was a former member of North Manchester Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed traveling with his wife thru most of the states, Jamaica, Mexico, Puerto Rico and in 1973 to the Church Mission in Nigeria. On October 31, 1942 he married Edna M. Mosemann. She died September 30, 2004. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Donna) McKee, North Manchester, IN and Mrs. Brian (Beverly) Graham, Warsaw, IN; one brother, Clyde (Mary) Greiner, Manheim, PA; four grandchildren, Scott (Kimberly) McKee, Muncie, IN, Mark (Nicole) McKee, North Manchester, IN, Corey (Sharon) Graham, Warsaw, IN and Colin (Jenna) Graham, Fort Wayne, IN and eight great grandchildren.  Two brothers and one sister are deceased. A memorial service will be held October 21, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Timbercrest Chapel, 2201 East Street, North Manchester, IN. Pastor Kurt Borgmann will officiate.   • MAX E. GRAY, 75, WABASH, IN

     

    Max E. Gray, 75, Wabash, Indiana died at 12:10 a.m. Sunday, July 8, 2012 at Miller's Merry Manor, Wabash, IN.  He was born at Huntington County, Indiana on July 24, 1936 to Eugene & Edith (Castator) Gray.  On June 29, 1968 he married Ceolia W. Carrouthers.  She survives.  Also surviving are a son, R. Scott (Sheila) Gray, Mexico, IN and a daughter, Alice (Charles) Harrington, Angleton, TX.  Five sisters, Winnifred Keefer, Calera, OK; Janet Tuvell, Syracuse, IN; Joyce DeWitt, Pelion, SC; June Hubburd, Ozark, AL and Betty Irland, Pelion, SC.  One grandchild, two step grandchildren and one step great-grandchild.  Also surviving is his faithful canine, Darbi.  His parents, two brothers and two sisters are deceased.  Max was a 1954 graduate of Laketon High School and attended Lincolnville United Methodist Church.  No services or calling are planned.   Arrangements are entrusted to McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, IN.  To send a private condolence to the Gray family, use the Condolence link on the Homepage.  For those who wish to honor the memory of Max E.     Zanna M. Gillum, 92, North Manchester, IN died at 6:45 p.m. Monday, June 11, 2012 at Heritage of Huntington. She was born January 28, 1920 in Logan, WV to Joseph B. & Marybelle (Ferrell) Bragg.  On April 20, 1935 she married John F. Gillum.  He died August 15, 1973.  She was a homemaker and a member of Victory Rock Church, Pierceton, IN. She is survived by three sons, Jack M. (Judy) Gillum, New Market, TN, Johnny M. (Debbie) Gillum, North Manchester, IN and Jimmy P. (Norma) Gillum, North Manchester, IN; two daughters, Glenda Stone, North Manchester, IN and Sena Setser, North Manchester, IN; one sister, Gay Cook, St. Alvans, WV and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.  One son, Billy Gene Gillum, died in 1994 and one daughter, Patricia Kirk, died in 2009.   • ROGER W. GHEEN, 76, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN

     

    Roger W. Gheen, 76, North Manchester, IN died at 8:50 a.m. Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Peabody Healthcare Center.  He was born at Columbus, Ohio on March 30, 1936 to Harold R. & Bertha L. (Metzger) Gheen.  He graduated from Grove City (Ohio) High School and served in the United States Air Force from 1961-1965.  He was a manager and mechanic at several marinas and later was a river tour boad captain at Lake Havasu, AZ.  Roger enjoyed woodworking, fishing and boat racing.  He was a member of the American Legion Post # 286, North Manchester, IN and the National Rifle Association.  Surviving are two sons, Mike Gheen and Marvin Gheen, and a daughter Peggy (Ralph) Bradley, all of North Manchester, IN.  A brother, Thomas (Jill) Gheen, Dayton, OH.  Three grandchildren, Michael Bradley, Matthew Bradley amd Brandt Gheen.  One sister is deceased.  No Services or calling are planned.  Burial will be at a later date in West Jefferson, Ohio.  Arrangements are being handled by McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, IN.  For those who wish to honor the memory of Roger W.   • J. EDWARD GILBERT, 92, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN

     

    J. Edward Gilbert, 92, North Manchester, IN died at 3:05 a.m. Sunday, March 25, 2012 in Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Wayne, IN.  He was born at North Manchester, IN on December 23, 1919 to Elmer & Ina (McFarland) Gilbert.  On June 9, 1945 he married Mildred L. Morris.  She survives.  Also surviving are three daughters, Janice Gilbert Hurst, McPherson, KS; Janean Gilbert, Indianapolis, IN and Janelle Gilbert Hoffmann, New Haven, MO.  Four grandchildren and one great grandchild.  Two sisters, Virginia Balsbaugh, North Manchester, IN and Mrs. Orlo (Josephine) Hibbs, Columbia City, IN.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Joyce, one brother and four sisters.  Edward graduated from Chester High School at North Manchester in 1937, attended Manchester College, and graduated from Purdue University.  He was a Vocational Agriculture teacher at Northwestern School Corp., Kokomo, IN for 32 years, retiring in 1978.  Following his retirement from education he worked at Ortman Well Drilling, Kokomo, IN for 11 years.  He was a Conscientious Objector in Civilian Public Service during World War II and a member of Manchester Church of the Brethren.  Services will be held Friday, March 30, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. in Timbercrest Chapel, 2201 East Street, North Manchester, IN.  Friends and family may call at Timbercrest Chapel on Friday, March 30 from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.  Arrangements are entrusted to McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, IN.   Patsor Karen Eberly and Chaplain Steve Crain will officiate and burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester, IN.  For those who wish to honor the memory of J.     Donald K. Gable, 89, North Manchester, IN died at 7:00 a.m. Saturday, February 5, 2011 in Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester, IN.   He was born February 8, 1921 at Wabash County, Indiana to Arthur Eldo & Ada (Humke) Gable.  On November 14, 1943 he married Dorothy B. Gurley.  She died January 26, 2011.  Surviving are two sons, Dennis (Judy) Gable, Elkhart, IN and Norman (Laura) Gable, North Manchester, IN.  One daughter, Rita Gable, Denver, CO.  Five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  One half sister, Margaret Lambert, North Manchester, IN.  Two grandchildren, one brother and one sister are deceased.  Don was a 1939 graduate of Chester High School and a lifelong farmer.  He was employed with Eagle Farms from 1936 and co-owner of Eagle Farms after his father's retirement in 1960.  He was a member of Manchester Church of the Brethren, Farm Bureau, Wabash County Pork Producers and National Camper and Hikers Association.  He was a private pilot and traveled to all 50 states and to Europe.  He served two terms on the Manchester Community School Board from 1965-1973.  Joint service for Donald & Dorothy Gable will be held Friday, February 11, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. in the Timbercrest Assembly Room, 2201 East Street, North Manchester, IN.  Friends and family may call on Friday from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. at the assembly room.  Pastor Karen Eberly will officiate and burial will be at a later date in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester, IN.  Arrangements are entrusted to McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, IN.  For those who wish to honor the memory of Donald K.     Dorothy B. Gable, 87, North Manchester, IN died at 11:10 a.m. Wednesday, January 26, 2011 in Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester, IN. She was born July 31, 1923 in Huntington County, IN to Dr. Raymond & Haldes (Sundland) Gurley. She graduated from Roanoke (IN) High School in 1941 and attended Ball State University. On November 14, 1943 she married Donald K. Gable. He died February 5, 2011. Dorothy was a homemaker and co-owner, bookkeeper and secretary of Eagle Farms, retiring in 1993. She was a charter member of Timbercrest Auxiliary for many years, serving as president for 5 years. She was a member of Manchester Church of the Brethren,  a member of Business Professional Women of North Manchester, where she was the first farm woman accepted in the organization, an active member of Tri-Kappa, North Manchester, IN, member of Women's Circle of Manchester Church of the Brethren for years, a member of National Camper and Hikers Association, active in the Huntington County Historical Society and the Indiana Archeological Society.  She traveled to all 50 states and to Europe. Her father was a federal veterinarian in Roanoke, IN.  Surviving are two sons, Dennis (Judy) Gable, Elkhart, IN and Norman (Laura) Gable, North Manchester, IN; one daughter, Rita Gable, Denver, CO; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Two grandchildren and two sisters are deceased. Joint service for Donald and Dorothy Gable will be held Friday, February 11, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. in Timbercrest Assembly Room, 2201 East Street, North Manchester, IN.  Pastor Karen Eberly will officiate.  Friends may call at the assembly rrom from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 11, 2011.  Burial will be at a later date in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester, IN.
